Huckleberry Circle resident Ben Armlin joined the Highlands Council Board of Trustees in August 2022. As a trustee, Ben is looking forward to learning and seeing where he can best help to fulfil the Highlands Council mission, while gaining a deeper appreciation for everything that goes into living in this community.
“I love the tight knit community and being able to walk or bike all over the Highlands while feeling safe and proud of where I live,” Ben said. “I really like being near the mountains and being surrounded by trees while in a larger community.”
He also loves that “everything is here” such as great businesses, fun events, dedicated volunteers and caring neighbors. Ben knows that a lot of work goes into making community, and he wants to help maintain that feeling.
Ben moved to Issaquah Highlands in 2011. As his first volunteer position in Issaquah Highlands, he became a Garden Ambassador for Sunset Walk community gardens. For about three years, he has also served as president of the Huckleberry Circle HOA.
Additionally, Ben owns and operates the Issaquah Ice Cream Trike, which is often seen around Issaquah Highlands and at community events. He says adding a voice to the board as a business owner was another reason why he wanted to join.
However, before applying, Ben never thought about joining this BOT before. He didn’t think “someone like me” could be on the board, he said.
Above all, Ben plans to help the board stay in line with the Highlands Council mission to foster the development of a vibrant and caring community committed to service, diversity, stewardship and well-being.
