Albert Wang is new to Issaquah Highlands! He moved to the Westridge neighborhood from Seattle in July 2022. As a first-time homebuyer, he was selected for affordable housing in Westridge through A Regional Coalition for Housing (ARCH).
“I chose Issaquah Highlands because it provides a peaceful and beautiful place to stay, with easy access to the city as well as nature,” Albert said.
He officially joined the Highlands Council Board of Trustees (BOT) in December 2022.
“Since moving from Seattle, I was looking for ways to plug into the community on the Eastside,” he added. “I believe that the best way to get plugged in is to volunteer and show up, and I think the BOT is a fantastic way to do so.”
Albert currently works as a social worker at Asian Counseling and Referral Service (ACRS). Before this, he worked at World Relief and helped to resettle Ukrainian and Afghan refugees in the Seattle area.
“I organized groups of volunteers to help receive a refugee family and help them get started in America,” he said. “It was very fulfilling work.”
He got his bachelor’s degree in economics from University of California, Berkeley, followed by a master’s in counseling psychology from The Seattle School of Theology & Psychology.
Albert is excited to dive in as a newer resident with his energy and zest for community. He also hopes to draw greater involvement in the community from the under 50 crowd. Additionally, he’s looking forward to contributing to the well-being of the Issaquah Highlands community.
“I’m passionate about creating a place for singles and young adults to engage with the community at large,” Albert noted. “Issaquah Highlands is seen as a great place for families, but I think it can also be great for those who don’t have children.”
Albert’s favorite thing about Issaquah Highlands (so far) is our commitment to building community equitably and intentionally.
He is also a big fan of the theater scene in Seattle and often travels to see friends perform in other cities.
