ParentWiser’s Smart but Scattered: Executive Function
Is your student disorganized, forgetful and easily distracted? Do they have trouble starting tasks, keeping track of papers or handing in homework? Students with executive function deficits present unique challenges to parents and teachers. Dr. Peg Dawson helps us better understand executive skills as well as their impact on school performance and daily living. PTSA Popcorn Fridays are Back!
The Grand Ridge Elementary PTSA is bringing recess popcorn back! The first popcorn Friday will be free for all students on Friday, Dec. 9, and future Popcorn Fridays will cost $.25/bag. We’re looking for volunteers to help pop the popcorn and hand it out. Consider signing up as Popcorn Friday volunteers for December and future months!
GRE Searching for Volunteer Site Council Representative
Grand Ridge Elementary is looking for a parent volunteer to step up as a Site Council Representative for the 2022-2023 school year. The commitment is 4-5 meetings per year (usually in November, January, March and May) on Tuesday mornings from 8-8:45 a.m. The council is comprised of community members, PTSA members, parents and staff. To apply, email Principal Ravenscraft explaining what you could contribute to the GRE Council. This is a site-based collaborative team working through a partnership.
STEM Competition for High School Students
The WSPTA Game Development Competition is a STEM-based program designed to encourage student success while expanding computer science knowledge and application skills. Teams can have up to six members in multiple grades. This program provides opportunities for students to use creative talents in developing computer games. Applications are due Jan. 15, 2023, and final projects are due March 15.
Friends of Echo Glen Requesting Holiday Donations
Help the Echo Glen staff keep student residents engaged and uplifted through holiday giving. New (and nearly new) donations are sincerely appreciated. Drop off donations on weekdays from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Amazon also delivers – use the Echo Glen Wishlist. Family and School Supports from King County Library
Ahead of finals and second semester, KCLS is offering additional student and family support such as community resources, streaming story times, drawing and songs, and additional educational assistance. Check out the Library News for Educators newsletter to browse resources, find tips from librarians for students, and find booklists or databases. Curbside printing pickups are also available through KCLS in Issaquah. Hopelink Offers Free GED Classes Online
High school students and adults can still earn their GED or high school diploma. High school credentials help find better jobs, prepare for college, and fulfill personal goals. Visit Hopelink for information.
ISD Seeks Volunteers for Title/LAP Parent Advisory Committee
Parent partnerships and family engagement are crucial components of the Title/LAP program. If your student receives Title/LAP services and you’re interested in joining the Parent Advisory Committee, email Director of Teaching and Learning Elementary Michelle Pickard. The Parent Advisory Committee meets 3-4 times a year via Zoom.
Donate Books to the PCMS Library
Looking for a way to give back this holiday season? Consider supporting PCMS by buying a book (or two) from their Amazon Wishlist! So many donated books have been read and loved by our PCMS students. A donation sticker is placed inside each book to recognize the family donation.
New Special Education Program: Ask the Experts!
Ask the Experts is a new video series enabling families to access advice from experts in various fields pertinent to special education. Each series is offered in two parts: the expert’s talk and a Q&A session. Nancy Colburn of Engage ADHD Coaching presented this month. You can access the video here.
