My wife, Sandy and I moved to Issaquah Highlands five years ago from Sammamish. When we moved here, our daughter worked at Swedish Issaquah, and the proximity worked well for Sandy to assist with childcare responsibilities.
Issaquah Highlands is a beautiful community with easy access to shopping, restaurants, and of course, hiking trails and other outdoor activities; we love living here. One cannot live in the Highlands without acknowledging the terrific views of Bellevue, Seattle, and lakes. It is really something special.
While reading Connections, I noticed a list of Highlands committees; that got me thinking about community involvement. At the time, I wanted to involve myself more deeply in the community, so I applied for a role on the Issaquah Highlands Community Association (IHCA) Architectural Review Committee (ARC), and to my delight, I was accepted.
My fellow committee members are impressive, and we all share a passion for community service. The business of ARC is interesting and requires a working knowledge of the community’s Covenants, Conditions, and Restrictions (CC&Rs). (Perhaps I will look for additional committee volunteer opportunities at a later date.)
Over the years, I have served on several nonprofit boards, finding volunteer service a good use of my skills and knowledge. Currently, I serve on the board of the Association of Washington Business (AWB) and its tax committee and am a past officer of that organization.
The ARC Committee has proven to be a good way to become more involved in the Issaquah Highlands community and I look forward to continuing that service.
